Is it me or am I alone in thinking Susan Boyle doesn’t need a makeover? I know, you’d think that it goes against all I stand for...seeing her walk out on Britain’s Got Talent with those brows. And dark hose with light pumps? Not usually a good idea.
Yet, as I watched (several times) I kept thinking...I like her look.
I like that she wore dark hosiery because it was more slenderizing to her legs. I like that she chose a neckline that elongated her neck, and a dress that skimmed her figure but didn’t cling or bag. I liked that she wanted some fullness in her hair for balance and that it’s short in the nape for lift and elongation.
I liked that she made her first entrance as a “work in progress” at 47.
I’m very curious to watch how this pans out. Not that I’d not want to give her a nice cut and a soft color and perhaps a LITTLE help with the brows. And yes, I’d probably even out the ruddy complexion and give her eyes some pop and sparkle. And yes, she could use a little shoulder lifting with fabric and detail.
But that’s not a makeover. That’s just minor architectural improvements that will allow the listener to hear her gift without distraction.
Yes, I’m interested to watch. I’d like to see her get her due...to have a first chance second act. And as she grows, so will her image. I'm interested in watching that as well.
But for now, she’s perfect...being who she is and expressing that in how she looks. Beautiful.

Hi, I watched her last week on the show and thought that she was at least 10 years older than me (we are the same age) and I was shocked to hear we are the same age. My first reaction was that she badly needed a make-over and everyone here in the GB seems divided as to whether she does or not. I have read articles by celebs who are gorgeous, botox enhanced, etc, who keep saying she should stay the same, keep the "old lady from the country" look etc. If they had the same look as her I would might take their opinions seriously, but when they look 10 years younger than they do I am a bit sceptical. Anyway, I think it should be left down to her. May be she has always wanted to look glam, slim and gorgeous to go with her fantastic voice and she would welcome a new look. If, however, she is happy how she looks, no matter what any one else says, she should be allowed to stay the same. I think, though, she will eventually bow to pressures of our society to keep looking young and slim and have some sort of make-over. Whatever happens, I hope she is happy in her own skin and enjoys her newly found fame, as she indeed has a fantastic talent.

Bravo Christopher I love fashion, beauty, etc ., but I would trade my groomed eyebrows, correct bra, and modern hairstyle in a snap.
People have their priorities a little mixed up these days.
I could not believe how shocked the people on the panel were. I mean their jaws dropped. As though you have to be a babe, or show clevege or have great legs or hair or all the other things we tend to confuse with what makes up a real person. What is so shocking about a plain or homely or even ugly person having talent? It happens all the time on those kind of shows. They never learn.
I love the comments! Finally my blog seems to be working and people can comment.
My opinion, truly on this entire matter stays consistent. "When how you appear reflects who you are, you're beautiful."
As Miss Boyle inevitably evolves, her look will hopefully reflect her evolution authentically. This is a challenge we all face as we age...myself included.
How do I look my best, without looking desperate?
What a lovely thing to say about Susan Boyle. I agree completely. She doesn't need to change at all except for a little here and there like you said. Susan Boyle is a breath of fresh air. She is so special that I hope she keeps on with her career because I have spent a lot of time watching her sing on you-tube and have been really blessed by her and her performance. I am so excited about buying her cd. She is a precious human being. I don't want her to be hurt. I wish the very best for her always.
